How bedtime works now

From a name to a nightly story, in four small steps.

No writing, no screens full of settings. Set it up once, then just show up at bedtime.

Step one

Add your hero

Your child’s name, age, and — if you like — a photo. That’s all it takes to make them the star.

Step two

Gather the family

Amma, Appa, Paatti, Thatha — added by the names your family actually uses at home.

Step three

Set the rhythm

Pick a season theme and the nights you’d like a fresh story to arrive.

Step four

Read together

A freshly painted story lands each chosen evening. Snuggle up and turn the pages.

What makes it Kadhai Kutty

Not another cartoon app. A storybook that knows your family.

Riya-vin Kolam Kaalai · page 4

Hand-painted, not stamped out

Your child, illustrated into every page.

Each story is painted in soft watercolour — terracotta floors, lamplit walls, a kolam fresh on the doorstep. Your child sits recognisably at the centre of it, not a stock cartoon, but a little hero who feels like yours.

  • Warm, storybook watercolour on every page
  • Real South Indian detail — kolam, brass lamp, silk-border gold
  • Comic-panel pages made to be read aloud

The language of home

Told in the warm Tanglish your family speaks.

Amma, kanna, sari-sari — the words you say every day, woven into the story with the real nicknames and the city you call home. It reads the way bedtime actually sounds in an Indian house.

  • Your family’s own names and nicknames
  • Six languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada or English
  • Never gendered — every child is the hero
Amma“Vaanga kanna, innaikku oru kadhai…”
Riya“Paati, andha lighthouse kadhai venum!”
Paati“Sari sari — kண்ணை moodu, naan sollaren.”

A season that unfolds

Ten stories. One theme. A shelf that fills, night by night.

Every season is a ten-story arc with its own world — Kolam & Colours, Rainy Day Play, Magic Carpet Rides. Locked chapters wait on the shelf as painted teasers, so there’s always a “what happens next” to look forward to.

  • A themed 10-episode arc, not random one-offs
  • Peek at locked teasers — and suggest an idea for one
  • Save a whole season offline for journeys

Stories that remember

A living map of your child’s story world.

Characters and places come back. The mango tree from last week, Paati’s recipe, a friend from the tea stall — Kadhai Kutty keeps a warm little universe of the people, places and keepsakes your child has met, and grows it every time you read.

  • Recurring characters, places and keepsakes
  • Gentle callbacks that reward reading together
  • Tap any moment to jump back to that page

Arrives at bedtime, every time

A new story, waiting when the lamp is lit.

Fresh stories are delivered in the evening, right around bedtime, on the nights you choose. A gentle streak keeps the ritual going — and Mayil the peacock celebrates every read, but never nags.

  • Evening delivery on your chosen days
  • A warm reading streak, gentle reminders
  • Steer any story — even one not written yet

The language of home

One good-night, in six mother tongues.

Pick the language your family actually speaks. Same little hero, same bedtime — your words.

The companion

Meet Mayil, the keeper of stories.

India’s own bird, painted in watercolour. Mayil (மயில்) fans open a tail of tales at bedtime — delighted when a new story is ready, a little wistful when the lamp stays dark. Warm, never loud: Mayil celebrates your child, and never once nags the parent.

Questions parents ask

Everything you might be wondering.

What exactly is Kadhai Kutty?

Kadhai Kutty is a bedtime-story app for young Indian families. It creates brand-new illustrated storybooks starring your own child alongside your real family, told in warm Tanglish, and delivers a fresh one on the evenings you choose.

What language are the stories in?

You choose the language of home. Stories can be told in Tamil + English (Tanglish), Hindi + English (Hinglish), Telugu, Malayalam, or Kannada — each mixed with English — or in plain English. The regional languages are written in easy Latin script, the way families actually speak, so anyone can read along. Tamil is where we began, and stays the flagship.

Do I have to upload my child’s photo?

No — a photo is optional. You can start with just your child’s name and age. Adding a photo simply helps the illustrations resemble your little one more closely, and you can remove it at any time.

Is it safe and private for my child?

Yes. Nothing starts without a parent’s consent, there are no ads, and your child’s details are never used to train AI or shared with third parties. Every story is written to be kind and age-appropriate, and you can delete all your data within 30 days whenever you wish.

What’s a “season”?

A season is a ten-story arc with a single theme — like Kolam & Colours or Rainy Day Play. The stories connect, characters return, and the shelf fills up one night at a time until the season’s little adventure is complete.

How much does it cost? Is it a subscription?

The first story is free. After that you can buy a Mini Pack (₹499 for three more stories) or a Full Season (₹1299 for all ten). These are one-time purchases — not a subscription — so there’s nothing that auto-renews.

Which phones does it work on?

Kadhai Kutty runs on Android phones today, with iPhone support on the way. Stories sync to your account, so you can read on any device you sign in on, and save seasons offline for journeys.

Light the lamp tonight.

Your child’s next favourite story is one tap away. The first one’s on us.
